    2023/24 PAIRS HANDICAP FINAL

Wednesday 29th May at Abbots Men's Club.

Ref: Danny Brocklehurst, Match Co-ordinator and Match Reporter: Dave Maley

Tonight’s contest saw The Glenn’s John Leahy and Conor Treacy go toe to toe with Harry Charalambous and Sanjay Meghani of Shots

    Frame 1

John started this evenings play, both sides going into aggressive safety play. John had the first chance at a long red but missed due to hampered cueing, which left Sanjay to score the first 24 points of the mate. Harry attempted a wild long red, John pocketed the red left for him and played a good snooker behind the yellow. Sanjay made a valiant escape attempt but come up short, however Conor failed to capitalise on the opening gifted to him, and left Harry in, who swiftly compiled a 38 to go 51 in front 59 on. After some missed chances and fouls from The Glenn boys Harry potted the red to seal the first frame.

    Frame 2

Sanjay’s turn to break, a brief safety exchange gave John a good chance to score heavy but only made 23.
Conor played a blinding safety, Sanjay escaped but left John an easy opener, making 32 for 60-0 Lead 91 remaining. Conor fouled awarding the shots boys the only 4 points they’d score this frame. Sanjay missed the red left on for him. John scored 16, missed frame ball red to go 73 in front 67 on. Harry played a poor safety, but Conor missed frame ball red almost identically to John

John eventually got in with 15 to cement frame 2 91-4, Harry and Sanjay failing to pot a ball

    Frame 3

Conor broke poorly, Harry made 6 to negate the start, followed by a good bout of safety from all corners. Sanjay had the first real chance and made a solid 52 break to go 53 in front 83 remaining. John and Conor picked off the odd loose red with a colour to nick a handful of points here and there. Sanjay failing to escape from a snooker and Harry missing everything allowed the gap to close. Very nervy play for the rest of the frame lots of balls rattled, eventually Harry potted the last of the colours to secure a 2-1 lead.

    Frame 4

Harry to break the 4th, John played a safety too thin cannoning a red up table for Sanjay’s early chance, played the green off 1 cushion but missed the cannon into the pack. A short period of safety ended when Sanjay rattled a red which landed over the opposite corner. Conor had his chance and he was going to take it, making a beautifully compiled 61 break, putting himself and John 62 in front with 67 remaining. Harry had a chance to get Shots back into the game but he only made 8, letting John to the table for a red and pink, snookers now required. Harry and Sanjay valiantly continued but a red from Conor and a missed pink from Sanjay saw the concession from Shots, leading us to a nail biting decider.

    Frame 5 decider

John broke, leaving Sanjay the long opener which was narrowly missed. Conor made 22 to put the Glenn boys in front. Harry was left an easy opener but put the Red to the far jaw, allowing John to make a 24, extending their lead. Mid frame safety play ensued, neither team wanting to leave the slightest of chances. Sanjay screamed home a beautiful long red bridging over the yellow, but a loose white landed in-between black and pink, but Sanjay’s skills with the long rest allowed the break to continue with a beautifully potted black. Shots looked to clawing their way right back into this decider, but a snatched green from Sanjay brought Conor to the table, only amassing 15 points but that was enough to leave Harry and Sanjay needing snookers. Swiftly after John arrived at the table following a poor safety from Harry, John making 21 which was enough for The Glenn to claim the match 3-2.

Congratulations to John and Conor, commiserations to Harry and Sanjay. Well played everyone for playing great snooker on a well fought final. Thoroughly entertaining throughout and too close to call until the end.

Many thanks to Danny for refereeing and to Dave for manning his command centre with the super scoreboard

THE 2023/24 'PAUL DEAN 3-MAN TEAM' FINAL

THE PAUL DEAN THREE-MAN TEAM SHIELD FINAL Friday 31st May at Oxhey Hall

DARREN MARJORAM, IAN WYSE AND CARL DUFFIELD (BOREHAMWOOD SOCIAL) V HARRY CHARALAMBOUS, CHRIS MULLINS AND PETE WRIGGLESWORTH (SHOTS)

Ref and Match Reporter Nick Smith.

Thanks to Oxhey Hall for hosting and Nick for reffing!

Frame 1 - Carl v Harry. Carl started with a 38 handicap start, but it was Harry, with an excellent 31 break who took the first frame 86-47.

Frame 2 - Darren v Pete. Darren 2 handicap start. Darren overcame Peter 68-37, after a 20-minute dual over the final blue, and winning on the pink to make it 1-1.

Frame 3 - Ian v Chris, Ian with a 17 handicap start. Ian won 72-46, winning on the pink to go 2-1 up.

Frame 4 - Darren v Harry. Darren 23 handicap start. Excellent safety from Harry, but Darren was able to make enough when in the balls to win 69-34 to go 3-1 up.

Frame 5 - Carl v Chris. Carl 18 handicap start. No breaks of note, and a tight frame, but Carl won with a fluke on the pink to win 68-55, and the match 4-1.

Congratulations to both teams for reaching the final, and bad luck to the Shots boys!

So, in the first and newly named 'Paul Dean Shield' final, after Paul's untimely death last July, it's Darren, Carl and Ian who are this year's Champions, well done boys!

2023/24 COLBOURNE TROPHY (2-MAN TEAM) FINAL

Mon 27th May Wed at Oxhey Hall

HARRY CHARALAMBOUS AND SANJAY MEGHANI (SHOTS) V PAUL GURNEY AND ANAND BHATT (GLENN)

    Ref Jash.

Thanks to Oxhey Hall for hosting and Mario and Warren for organising.

Frame 1 - Sanjay v Anand. Anand, with a 44 handicap start was first out of the blocks with some outstanding pots, to extend his lead to 59-0. Then, after perhaps one attempt too many he let in Sanjay for the first time, and Sanjay didn't disappoint with a fine 40 break, then a further 12 to close to 59-52. Then a couple of mistakes by Anand gave Sanjay a further 12 and 15, before wrapping up the frame 94-61.

Frame 2 - Harry v Paul. An early 16 from Harry levelled the scores, before two missed chances by Paul let in Harry to lead 32-14. Then a good 24 break from Harry took him to 57-14. Paul then rallied superbly with some fine snooker to close to 57-52. Paul was then so close to potting the green to make him favourite to clear the well placed colours and the frame, but the green wobbled, leaving Harry to clear up 69-58. 2-0 to Shots.

    Frame 3 - the doubles.

An early 24 from Sanjay and 23 from Harry wiped out the handicap difference to lead 48-29 and then 54-33. Sanjay then cleared to the blue to win the frame and the match 3-0.

Congratulations to both teams for reaching the final, and bad luck to the Glenn boys!

So, it's Harry and Sanjay who go one better than last year's runners up to be this year's Champions, well done boys!

    2023/24 SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

    Weds 22nd May at Shots

ANDY LAVIN (Croxley RBL) v ANDREW SCOTT (Glenn A)

Ref Jash, Match Reporter Conor Treacy.

The Big Final had a very cautious start from both players. Chances were missed by both, and the scores were pretty level throughout. A bad miss from Andrew allowed Andy to clear the colours from yellow to blue to leave Andrew needing a snooker. After a couple of good snooker efforts Andy took the frame 49-25.

Frame 2 saw missed chances from both players at the start, before Andy compiled a fine 36 break. Andrew immediately responded with a nice 29 break. The frame went to the colours with Andrew clearing up with another excellent 25 break to win on the black. 70-56, and 1-1.

Frame 3. A poor break off from Andrew allowed Andy to start well with a 26 break. More chances were offered to both players, but it was Andy, with a 21 break, who went on to win the frame 68-19 to lead 2-1.

Frame 4. A scrappy start to the frame. A mis-placed safety shot from Andrew let Andy in to make a solid 28 break. A further missed brown from Andrew led to a 20 break from Andy, with Andrew conceding shortly afterwards at 50-3. 3-1 to Andy.

Frame 5. Andy opened with an excellent 28 break. Andrew then missed a difficult half chance which led to Andy making a 30 break to extend his lead. A cracking long pot resulting in a further break of 39 finished the contest 97-0, and 4-1 to Andy to take the title.

Congratulations to both players for reaching the final, and bad luck Andrew.

So, it is Andy Lavin who once again is our Champion! Well done Andy!

Thanks to Shots for hosting with an excellent venue, and thanks to Conor for providing this report.

    2023/24 OVER 45'S FINAL

Over 45's Final at Abbots Tuesday 21st May.

Ref - Danny Brocklehurst, and Matchday technician and Match Reporter- Dave Maley.

Tonight’s contest saw The Glenn’s John Leahy lock horns with Kings Langley's Darren Carter for the prize of being over 45’s Champion.

John started proceedings, and a very cagey game ensued from both parties. Darren was the first to score and extend his 27 point start, but left John in who quickly halved the deficit. After a short stint of safety play Darren awarded John a chance, with John mopping up a 25 clearance to get the first frame on the board.

Frame 2 mimicked frame 1’s cagey start, neither player wanting to give an inch. Both contestants nibbled the odd point until John got in with a 25 break, negating the handicap start. John furthered his lead, nicking a small handful of points here and there amid a safety exchange. A foul and poor safety presented John with a chance which he took to claim the 2nd frame for his own.

Frame 3 Darren scored early, and with help from several fouls from John gave him a strong lead. John retaliated with a blinding long red, making 37 to edge just in front. This was backed up with excellent safety, Darren allowing John back to the table swiftly, but unable to capitalise on the chance that was left for him. John’s unexpected in off gave Darren an easy chance with the last red over the middle but he could only level the score. A few nervy shots saw John with the last chance he needed to take the last few balls and the match 3-0

    Congratulations John and commiserations Darren

Thanks to everyone who attended, including the Competition Secretary himself Mr Andy Stewart, clearly eager to see how the Abbots boys put on a final.

Thanks to Danny officiating proceedings, with Dave manning the super hi-tech scoreboard.

2023/24 ALAN SHARP TROPHY (OVER 35 HANDICAPS) FINAL

Monday 20th May at Kings Langley. Jash the ref.

In frame 1, defending champ Gary Norman of St Albans B faced a composed Hifzur Rahman of Watford Social, who led from the start, slowly adding to his score at most visits, and leaving Gary with little potting options. Hifzur won with a comfortable 63-13.

Frame 2 started very tight, but then with Gary not himself and not having the best of luck, and Hifzur continuing with some excellent potting and safety, the frame ended with another comfortable 65-26 to Hifzur to go 2-0 up.

Frame 3 was very cagey to start with, and Gary started to have some good fortune and play some better shots. Hifzur started to lose his way a little and Gary led for most of the frame, curtesy of a couple of flukes along the way to win 45-30. 2-1.

In Frame 4 Hifzur hit the buffers and Gary started to find some form. Gary led for most of the frame, but with the frame all but won, Hifzur hung in with a couple of good snookers, and could have snatched the frame at the end. Gary then fluked the pink to wrap it up 49-43. 2-2.

To the deciding 5th Frame. This was the best frame of the night. Both players potting well, the score was close all the way through. Hifzur finished well to win the frame 50-35 and the match 3-2 after a 4-hour battle, but I put that down to the slow referee!

Congrats to Champ Hifzur, and bad luck Gary!

    2023/24 CHALLENGE CUP PLATE FINAL

Challenge Plate Final @ KLSC 16/5/24.

    Croxley RBL v Cotterells.

Many thanks to Tony Thompson for reffing and providing this report. This match proved to be a very hard fought contest and was only decided at the end of the 5th frame. First up for Croxley was Andy Lavin and his Cotterells opponent was Gary Kruck. After a fairly nervy opening with several missed pots the frame was fairly even until Andy suddenly compiled an excellent 40 break which took the game away from Gary, 1-0. Denis Tristram v Pete Blythe for frame 2. Dennis seemed to be having the run of the ball and didn't leave much for Pete to get his potting game going but he caught up on the colours only to leave the black right over the pocket for Denis to make it 2-0. Frame 3 promised to be a cracker between both sides lowest handicap players bringing together Karl Townsend and Michael McQuade. A lengthy contest saw the Cotterells man play a very considered frame with a combination of good potting and safety eventually to emerge the victor, 2-1. Next on Mark Thomas v John Turner. Mark appeared to be in almost complete control and was potting well and a 29 break looked to have the frame and match won but John fought back with great determination and when Mark missed the brown John took the last four colours one at a time to take the frame by just 2 points. So all down to the decider with the experienced Steve Russell facing young Lee Blythe. Another cagey game which swung both ways with both players requiring 2 of the last three colours. Despair for Lee as Steve doubles both the blue and pink to secure victory for Croxley.

Congrats to Croxley, and bad luck Cotterells.

John Leahy (Gordon Brown) v Andrew Scott (Bigfoot), both Glenn A.

All the rest of Glenn A and the Gaffer in attendance to ref. It went the distance.

The 1st big decision was what table to play on T1 (Bigfoot) or the Freddie ( Brown) Gaffer toss's coin Rylan (stocks) call's Tails T1 Head's Freddie. It's Head's we're on the Freddie Brown's happy.

Frame 1 Andrew has a 22 to wipe out start frame is scrappy John wins frame 61 26.

Frame 2 same as 1st Andrew has a 24 to wipe out start tight affair with Andrew 10 up on the green only for John to clear to pink. 68 59 to go 2-0 up.

F3 very scrappy frame nothing to write home about but Andrew extends the Final winning 67 46. 2-1 John.

F4 Worst frame of the Final but Andrew makes a 31 and takes it winning 48 29.

F5 The big one Brett Richard's turn to ref being the team player he is he refuses as he's a W⚓️. Big Darren Grieves in charge of the decider. Another frame that was nervy and not the 2 quality player's on show's best performance saw John Leahy take it 76 17 with lots of little breaks. Unlucky Andrew Scott . John Leahy finally the Bride. Andrew Scott good luck in the Championship Final. Finally thanks to all my players except Brett Richards.

    2023/24 CHALLENGE CUP FINAL

Challenge Cup Final last night at Bushey CC.

    SHOTS A v Hatfield Road.

Firstly, thanks to James Gurney at Bushey CC for an excellent venue again, great table to play on. Also thanks to Ref Mark Cooper, who endured some long and tedious frames (yes, Jash was playing...)

First up was Sean Vas and Jash. I think it took about 20 mins for the first ball to be potted, with some excellent initial safety, and little potting options. until Sean got a good 23 break. The frame was pretty level all the way through, with some nervy shots from both players towards the end, until a great blue and pink sealed the frame for Sean 66-46.

Second was Richard Pipe and James Miller. James stormed into a 28-point lead, with Richard playing some nervy shots initially, but an excellent 23 break brought the scores level. James then scored an excellent 20 break to win 63-48, to draw level at 1-1.

Enter Derren Wright and Brian Dunworth. Brian went 20 ahead, before a couple of unfortunate fouls and a 15 break took Derren into the lead. All level until the last red, Still level on the pink, before an excellent pink from Derren sealed the frame. 2-1 to SHOTS.

Frame 4 - Liam Evans v Jason Shore. Liam started very well and went ahead early, only for Jason to draw level, and then to creep ahead with some good pots. A spell of even play ended with Liam potting some fine balls with a great finish to win 57-39 and the match 3-1.

A fine match, with all frames very close.

Congrats to Champions SHOTS A for the second year running! Bad luck to Hatfield Road.

    2023/24 OVER 60'S FINAL

Summary of the Over 60's Final kindly provided by John Williams:

    Ref: Fil Clarke

    Venue Kings Langley

George Zammit (Maltese Matador) v Chris Moody (English Pitbull)

Tonight we bring you the Over 60’s Handicap Final, Between George (The Maltese Matador) Zammit and Chris (The English Pitbull) Moody.

This was a game for the ages, the Old ages.

    Frame 1:

Initial frame is scrappy with a lot of safety play and no real flow to the game. Chris takes the opening frame 54/45

    Frame 2:

George hits a lovely break of 25 to pull himself ahead. After this there is one way traffic with Chris getting very little to go at. George ties the score 68/29

    Frame 3:

Chris starts well, but George pulls this back within a few visits to bring the score to 31v33. There is a little back and forth with no real high scoring, at 43v54 George attempts a wild shot on the pink and misses, the Pink runs into a nice position for Chris to pot and take the frame. Chris leads 2-1 (43v60)

    Frame 4:

Much like the last frame, Chris gets an early extension to his handicap and opens up to 19v0. After this it is nearly all one way traffic in favour of George with Chris getting little to go at.

George levels the score 2-2 (25v63)

    Frame 5 – Final Frame:

Much like frame 4, George is potting well, is leaving nothing, no real breaks just some consistent potting. Ever the gentleman Chris makes a foul that was missed by everyone and immediately owns up and calls the foul. A few more pots from George brings the score to 54v15 and a lead of 39.

The balls not running Chris’s way in this framed, and at 58v16 up concedes the frame and with it the match.

    George wins 3-2

In the end between the Maltese Matador and the English Pitbull, this time, the Matador slays the bull.

Congrats to George, unlucky Chris, and thanks to Fil Clarke for reffing and John Williams for an excellent match report.

Having beaten the excellent Ryan Meers 4-2, Zack Richardson 4-2 in the quarters, and Simon Dent in the semis he was beaten 4-2 in the final by Billy Castle, who had beaten last year's Champion Alex Clenshaw 4-0 in the semis. Andy made breaks of 90, 82 and 70 during the day, so great effort. Bad luck Andy, and well played!

COLBOURNE TROPHY (2-MAN TEAM) FINAL 2023

So, the last final of this season:

Mark Thomas and Dennis Tristram (Ricky RBL) V Harry Charalambous and Sanjay Meganhi (SHOTS)

    - Referee Tony Thompson

Commentary by Tony Thompson - Thanks Tony!

Frame 1: Mark made good use of his 27 handicap start and steadily built on it to run out with an 81-40 win against Sanjay.

Frame 2 Dennis v Harry: The Shots man was always in control and aided by an excellent 34 break secured the frame 76-44 to level at 1-1.

Next up the doubles: Mark and Dennis opened up a 53 point lead and despite a 22 break which reduced the difference the Ricky pair hit back immediately with another 22 to take a 2-1 lead.

Next singles matched Mark with Harry: This frame was tit for tat but with Harry holding a 46-38 advantage Mark seized his opportunity and knocked in a well constructed 38 break to take frame and match 3-1.

So, congrats to our new Champions Mark and Dennis, and bad luck to Harry and Sanjay!

Many thanks to Tony for refereeing and to Glenn for hosting.

Thanks to everyone who hosted and refereed in the competitions this year, and see you all at the Presentation Night on 3rd June!

    SINGLE HANDICAP FINAL 2023

    at Glenn 11th May

Andy Lavin (Ricky RBL) v Mark Worley (St Albans CC A)

    - Referee Len Ganley (AKA Paul Stockwell)

In Frame 1 both players had chances, but it was Mark who led until the last couple of reds with breaks of 20 & 21 before Andy cleared with a 36 break to take the frame 66- 62.

Frame 2 was also very close, with Mark making 33 and Andy 25 along the way before Mark potted the pink after snookering Andy to win the frame 68-59 and draw level. Frame 3 was a much quicker frame with Mark getting in early with an excellent 59 break to win the frame 80-13 and lead 2-1.

Frame 4 started off with a bout of safety before breaks of 20 & 36 by Andy to take the frame 74-16 to make it Desmond and take us to a decider.

Frame 5 started with both players having plenty of chances and Mark taking a 10-point lead before leaving Andy another chance which this time he took with a lovely break of 67 to the green to win the frame and title 75-18.

Congrats to our new Champion Andy, and bad luck Mark!

Thanks to Len Ganley for reffing and to Glenn for providing the venue.

    SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP 2023

    At SHOTS 10th May
Jamie Rous (Oxhey Hall B) v John Leahy (Glenn A) - Jash referee.

Frame 1: After a bout of excellent safety by both players, John took his chances with an opening 27 break, followed by some fabulous pots to take the first frame 62 -24.

Frame 2: A very tight frame throughout, with both players missing good chances. The frame was level going into the colours, but it was Jamie who potted an excellent brown and go on to take the frame 56-38.

Frame 3: Jamie was gradually getting into his stride after a slow start to the match. He made an excellent 33 break, but John responded immediately with 38. But it was Jamie who took the frame 71-39 to go 2-1 up.

Frame 4: John came out of the blocks quickly to go into the lead at the start of the frame, but missed chances to extend his advantage. Jamie was now looking more confident, and with 19 and 32 breaks took the frame 68-34.

Frame 5: Both players had chances in this frame, but Jamie, with a 29 break went 49/26 up, and then finished the frame with 17 to take it 60-45 and the title 4-1.

ALAN SHARP TROPHY FINAL (35+ HANDICAP TOURNAMENT) 2023

at Abbots Mens Club 9th May - Danny Brocklehurst and Dave Maley referees. Commentary by Dave Maley

Gary Norman (St Albans CC B) Vs Neil Weiser (Glenn D)

Defending champion Gary started strong in the opener of this contest, taking handful after handful of points to establish a strong lead, leaving Neil needing snookers with the colours to go. Neil bravely continued but the snookers evaded him and Gary took the colours to secure the first frame.

Frame 2 started quickly, with both contenders grabbing points where they could, Neil claiming more points to take a healthy lead, which held until there was 1 red remaining. Neil’s fortune disappeared and a series of unfortunate shots lost him his 27 point lead through fouls, making it level going into the colours. A couple of mistakes from Neil allowed Gary to take a colour where he could, going 14 in front with 13 on, Gary eventually taking the pink to claim the second frame.

The third frame opened up straight away, sadly not in a good way, with colours going on cushions and most reds covering each other. Every single point became so valuable, and both contenders nibbled a point as and when they could throughout the frame. 22 points a piece with only brown, blue, pink and black remain. A fierce safety battle ensued but opportunity presented itself to Gary first, who sunk brown and blue. Following a brief stint of safety, Gary slotted in a pink down the rail with the rest to claim frame, match and title.

Massive congratulations to Gary for retaining The Alan Sharp Trophy. Commiserations to Neil, who put up a hell of a fight, 3-0 being far from reflective of a tough fought, hard battled contest.

Thanks again to Dave, Danny and to Abbots for hosting again, much appreciated!

CHALLENGE CUP PLATE AT ABBOTS MENS CLUB 4TH MAY

Glenn C v Rickmansworth RBL - Danny Brocklehurst and Dave Maley referees. Commentary by Dave Maley

    Mark Thomas v Ritchie Keane:
1st frame started slowly with safety from both players kept the reds tight. Eventually Mark was the first to score with a 24 break. Ritchie in turn brought the scores close to level. From there only a handful of points were scored each way and with a bit of luck for both players the scores stayed level going into the colours. Ritchie played a loose safety on the green which gave Mark an opportunity for a small lead. Following a couple safeties Mark saw home a long frame ball blue and a pink a couple shots later to seal the deal. Ricky 1-0
Second frame saw Andy Lavin and Lee Coniam into bat. Safety battle from the off until Lee went in off allowing Andy in with a 32 break to negate the handicap start. From there both players nicked a lone red and a couple points apiece which saw the match stay level going into the colours. A tight safety battle ensued with Lee landing many snookers until he got a chance but couldn’t take it. A doubled brown, good safety, long blue, good safety and straight forward pink put Andy over the line. 2-0 to Ricky.
Mark Wilson had Dennis Tristram in his sights as he went straight in with a 19, so with his start giving him a healthy lead. Safety battle followed until Den scored a handful of points to get his name on the board. The rest of the frame saw safety battles and a few points taken by each player, keeping things fairly level. Mark attempted a 3 ball plant down the rail which was unsuccessful, allowing Den to mop up a couple open balls for a small lead going into the colours. After a long safety battle, Mark risked a double on the yellow, which Den then took with green to further his advantage. Brown claimed by Mark but a long blue and good snooker on the pink by Den looked to have frame and match wrapped up, as Mark missed leaving him in the snookers required stage. Mark played the pink with force leaving the pink tight on the baulk rail, the cue ball came up and down and jawed in the yellow pocket, leaving Den snookered, which he failed to escape, and was put back in. Mark was left a sniff at a long pink which he slotted in nicely with cue ball coming round off 3 cushions to land perfect on the black, which he saw home to win a nail biter of a frame and keep Glenn’s hopes alive. Ricky 2-1 up.
Graham Barnard and Karl Townsend contested the 4th frame which started scrappy, with a couple of chances missed from both sides. Graham extended his lead, and a 3 ball plant attempt left a red over the hole but Graham bravely chose a longer trickier red which he slammed home with a colour and a good safety. Eventually a poor safety from Karl gave Graham the chance he needed to mop up enough points to clinch the frame, taking us to a decider.
Steve “Smooth” Russell and Vince Fisher went into battle in this deciding frame, and it started very cagey, neither side wanting to give an inch. An odd red was picked off here and there by both parties until Smooth fluked a plant over some distance to get in. Opportunity presented itself but was not taken. In between bouts of safety Vince took points where he could as did Smooth. Last red was sunk with green by Vince giving him a 9 point advantage with only the colours to go. The telling moment came when Smooth fouled the green, giving 6 away and leaving free ball. Vince elected blue which was neatly over the middle, and followed it with the green. Smooth battled hard but Vince finally potted the brown, and received the handshake, winning the frame and match for an impressive comeback by the Glenn.

Congrats to Glenn C, and bad luck Ricky RBL.

Thanks again to Dave and Danny and Abbots for hosting!

    3-MAN TEAM FINAL 2023

3-Man Team Final Weds 3rd May at Bushey CC.

Kings Langley (Fil Clarke, Dom Coare and John Evans) V SHOTS (Andrew Scott, Sean Vaz and Sanjay Meghani) Ref Tony Thompson.

Commentary by Tony Thompson - thanks Tony:

This was a battle between the low and high handicaps.

Frame 1 Sanjay v Fil. Following some initial safety exchanges Sanjay burst into action with a splendid 74 break taking the frame 99-50. Next up Andrew v Dom. The 57 point start kept Dom in the game and with Andrew missing a few pots and having a fair amount of bad luck, Dom took the second 97-73 to level 1-1.

Next up was Sean v John - another 50 point start kept John ahead but two snookers on the colours got Sean right back in touch and he ran out the winner 84-61 to go 2-1 up.

The in form Sanjay was next v Dom and the 57 handicap was soon eliminated by another break of 51, and Sanjay making it 3-1 (92-58).

Frame 5, Sean v Fil, saw some solid potting by Sean (84-61) to bring the Shots boys over winning line.

Thanks to the Bushey club for hosting and preparing a good table.

Great report Tony, and thanks for refereeing! Congrats to our Champions SHOTS, and well done Fil, John and Dom for reaching the final!

    OVER 45'S FINAL

    Sanjay Meghani v Mark Thomas

Tues 2nd May at Abbots Mens Club: Commentary by Dave Maley, thanks Dave!

First frame kicked off with both players nicking a handful of points here and there. Following a few safety exchanges it was Sanjay that had the opportunities but wasn't able to capitalise and Mark claimed the points where he could to go 1-0 up

Frame 2 was a scrappy affair throughout, with both parties stealing a red and colour where they could. Sanjay was able to pick off enough points to negate the 27 start he was giving but ultimately Mark's safety was a fraction better and he was helped with the run of the ball. This frame was neck and neck coming down to the colours until Mark powered in a long blue followed by a long pink to clinch the second frame to go 2-0 up.

The reds quickly became very open in frame 3, however blue and pink found themselves on the cushions up table and the black was hampered by reds. Both parties were playing a shot to nothing until a poor safety from Mark allowed Sanjay in. A good opening red freed the black and Sanjay took his chance, compiling a beautiful 67 break, missing yellow to opposite centre for a potential 94 clearance. 2-1 to Mark

Mark pounced immediately with a long red following Sanjay's break off and produced a tidy 26 to go 53-0 up. Sanjay's safety was met with misfortune as the cue ball found the knuckle which allowed Mark straight back in with an 18 for 71-0 up. Following a brief period of safety Mark glided a long red to the far corner with a blue to follow to go 77 in front with 75 remaining. Sanjay bravely continued and a loose shot from Mark conceded a foul 4 and gave Sanjay a glimmer of hope, but the damage had already been done and Mark forced his way back in with a 23 break to claim the frame 100-4 and the match to claim the title.

    Mark 3-1 Sanjay
    Breaks: Sanjay 67

Thanks Dave, and thanks to Dave and Danny for refereeing again and providing the venue. Congrats to Mark for claiming the Title twice in three years. Condolences to Sanjay, but congrats for competing in several finals this year!

    2023 CHALLENGE CUP FINAL - SHOTS V GLENN A

Weds 27th April at Oxhey Hall:

Richard Pipe (SHOTS) and Brett Richards (Glenn) got us underway. Richard was very solid and with the aid of a 21 break took the frame 61-18.

In the 2nd, Glenn's John Leahy started very well, but let in Sean Vaz a couple of times, which is all he needed, with breaks of 30 and 27 to take the frame 71-44 to open up a 2-0 lead for SHOTS.

In the 3rd, Chris Chrysostomou played superbly throughout against Glenn's Paul Stockwell, opening up a good lead at the start. But Stocks kept his nerve, and with a break of 31, closed the gap before taking the frame at the end.

At 2-1 to SHOTS, next it was Andrew Scott v Glenn's Connor Treacy. Andrew looked to be on top in the early stages, and had good opportunities to wrap up the match, but Connor pulled out some excellent pots to win the 4th 70-38 to make it 2-2.

So, it was down to Harry Charalambous for SHOTS and Darren Grieves for the decider. It's fair to say that both had very good chances in the nervy early stages, but it was Harry, with the aid of a 24 break, who made the best of his, and take the frame 73-9 and the match.

So, congrats to our Challenge Cup Champions SHOTS, and bad luck Glenn A.

A great final that went all the way, in front of a good crowd!

Thanks to Oxhey Hall for staging the final. Sadly, Don Allday was AWOL, so special thanks to Warren Brown, Frank Clark, Ben Heffes and Kevin Broom for stepping in and prepping the venue and providing a fantastic barbie afterwards for all players and spectators. Much appreciated!

The first frame looked to be going Dave and Shaun's way - with a 22 point lead - until Sanjay cleared the colours (27 break) to nick it 59-54. Harry then produced a fantastic 72 break in the 2nd for a 2-0 lead. The 3rd was another close frame, but the Shots boys nicked it 67-56 to wrap up a 3-0 win and the title. Congrats to our Champions Harry and Sanjay, and well done to Dave and Shaun as runners-up!

2022/23 GORDON WILSON MEMORIAL TROPHY (OVER 60'S) FINAL:

Brian Dunworth (Hatfield Road) v Frank Clarke (Oxhey Hall B) at Glenn Sports and Social Club:

Another closely fought final between two very well known faces in the league. Brian took first blood with an excellent 30 break to take the first frame, before just nicking the second to go two up. Frank then mounted his comeback, comfortably taking the third, and then nicking the fourth after Brian looked to have wrapped things up with another 30 break. So, onto a very tense and nervy deciding frame. Both players did their best to lose the frame, with great chances going begging, but it was Brian who just managed to take the frame and the title on the blue. Well done to both players, and congrats to this year's Champion Brian! Thanks to Glenn for hosting and to Paul Stockwell for preparing the table.

    2022/23 TED HIGGINS FINAL

Boxmoor v Glenn D - yesterday at Abbots:

This was a very close and edgy final, which could have gone either way. First on was Lee 'Scouse Git' Taylor, who edged out Dave Green on the black in a very tight affair.

Next up was Dave Pullman, who nicked it on the blue against skipper Neil Weiser to make it 2-0 to Boxmoor.

Phil Seabrook dragged Glenn back to 2-1 with an outstanding long pink against Bob Hoskins to win yet another close affair.

Martin Bayliss took it to a decider by beating Paul Dean in the 4th frame.

So, to the nervy last frame between skipper Lee Scarborough and Keelan Weiser, which again went all the way, with Lee potting the blue to make Boxmoor victorious.

An excellent final, with neither team deserving to lose, but it's congratulations to winners Boxmoor and tough luck to Glenn D!

Thanks to Danny Brocklehurst and Dave Maley and Abbots for staging the Final, along with their snazzy Pro Scoreboard!

    2022 3-MAN TEAM FINAL

3-Man Team Final between Shots (Richard Pipe, Harry Charalambous, Simon Littler) and Glenn (Vince Fisher, Rob Alletto, Ritchie Keane) at Bushey CC:

First up was Harry against Vince. Vince made the most of his handicap and protected his lead well, making the reds and colours awkward, such that Harry never got into his stride. It was a long frame with lots of mistakes from both players but in the end it was a comfortable win for Vince.

Next up was Richard against Rob. Richard took his chances well and came out on top to make it 1-1.

Simon then played Ritchie. This was clearly going to be the key frame of the final. Simon responded by playing the best frame he has played throughout the tournament, putting together a 20+ break at the key stage of the frame. 2-1 to Shots.

Richard, who according to the ref was the night's star performer, played Vince next, and again took his chances and played very well to make it 3-1.

Harry then did what Harry does. He shrugged off his poor performance in the earlier frame and found his groove against Ritchie to seal a 4-1 win.

Congrats to Shots, and bad luck Glenn. Thanks Tony Thompson for reffing, and to James at Bushey CC for again being the host!

    CHALLENGE CUP PATE FINAL 2022

    Commentary by Andy Stewart:

    Glen A v Shots B

    Frame 1

    Brett Richards v Andy Lavin

Brett potted the first couple of balls before a very good spell of safety play around the black spot see the reds spread all over the table. Brett got the next red but missed the brown leaving Andy in the balls. Andy made a very good 43 with low value colours before running out of pottable reds. Andy had a 31 point lead before the big turning point Brett potting the last but one red and snookering Andy on the last red. The scores were level before Brett took a small lead with the green left. Brett took the next few colours to leave Andy need a snooker which didn't come. Brett taking the frame 77 - 56

    Frame 2

    Conor Treacey v Andrew Scott

Both players had their chances in this frame. It was Conor who made the most of them running the winner 63 - 24 to put the Glenn 2up

    Frame 3

    Paul Stockwell v Brad McCarthy

Another had fought battle which see Brad take an early lead with Paul battling back and then Paul had the chance to win it but missed the Brown. This left Brad needing all four to win and after a good Brown, Blue and Pink didn't quite get on the Black and started a good saftey exchange. After a few shots each Paul was left a thin one which he got to win the frame 72- 60 and match 3 - 0 for Glenn A.

More importantly a good night was had by good mates with loads of Baileys Sambuca & Jagers flowing.

    2021/22 PAIRS HANDICAP FINAL

A very tough fought Pairs final took place last night between Abbots pair Jeff Worts and Rob Powell and Boxmoor's finest Dave Pullman and Paul Dean. Jeff and Robb nicked the first frame 56-48. The 2nd frame was equally tight until Dave's excellent 39 clearance to win 89-31. The 3rd frame was crucial. Very tight, both teams edgy and not taking their chances, but it was Rob and Jeff that nicked it 73-52. With a bit of the pressure off Rob and Jeff came alive in the 4th, with Jeff's 20 and Rob's 25 and 34 to take the frame 97-48 and the match 3-1. A great final to ref, and a great set of lads! Congrats to Champs Rob and Jeff, and very well battled Dave and Deano!

2021/22 SINGLES HANDICAP FINAL - RAMIN EMAMI (HATFIELD ROAD) V SCOTT WHEATLEY (CHORLEYWOOD)

Thanks to Shots for providing the venue for this final. In a very close and tight encounter, it was Scott Wheatley who took the first frame with an excellent 24 clearance. Ramin Emami came back to nick the 2nd and 3rd, with Scott levelling in the 4th. In the deciding 5th nerves played its part on both players, but it was Ramin who got over the line to win 3-2 and take the title. Well done to both players!.

    2021/22 TED HIGGINS FINAL - GLENN B V CHORLEYWOOD

There were no big breaks to report but it was a tough game played in a great spirit. Chorleywood's Craig Howlett beat Richie Keane to put Chorleywood 1-up only for Glenn's Lee Coniam to take out Chorleywood's big dog Scott Wheatley to level at 1-1. In the 3rd frame Glenn's Vince Fisher overturned a 36 point deficit to beat Glenn O'Malley to put Glenn 2-1 up. Glenn's Mark Wilson and Brett Wheatley then had a close game with Mark eventually sealing the victory to make it 3-1 to Glenn B and to take the title.

2021/22 CHALLENGE CUP FINAL - HATFIELD ROAD V ABBOTS LANGLEY

Thanks to James Gurney at Bushey CC for providing a fabulous venue and table for this final, and to Tony Thompson for reffing.

First up was Hatfield Road's Brian Dunworth v Danny Brocklehurst. Brian saved one of his best frames of the season, including a fine 32 break to win 76-20. In the second frame Hatfield Road's Ramin Emami overcame a luckless Robbie Carty 63-40 with a solid performance. Rob Powell was his usual self - pulling one back for Abbots with a 33 break to win 81-29 against Steve Goodchild. In the 4th frame Abbots's Ciaran Halpin played well, but couldn't match Pete Close's excellent 45 break to take the frame and match for Hatfield Road. Good match, great venue, and well done to both team!

COLBOURNE TROPHY FINAL (2-MAN TEAM) 2019/20

Congrats to another pair of Hatfield Road boys Brian 'Evergreen' Dunworth and Steve Goodchild, who are the 2019/ 20 Colbourne Trophy Two-Man Team Champions. In a very tense final, against regular finals pair Rob Alletto and Vince Fisher, which could have swung either way, Brian stole the first frame off of Rob, who led for most of the frame, with an excellent clearance to win by 1 point. Steve made it 2-0 in the 2nd frame against Vince, with both potting well. Then came the fightback - Rob and Vince followed up winning the doubles with Vince beating Brian to make it 2-2. So, it all came down to Steve and Rob in the decider. With Steve on top initially, Rob came back, but nerves took their toll the longer the frame went on. Steve's tip then came off, so he had to finish the frame with Brian's cue (Vince wouldn't lend him his - joke) . Both had glorious chances to win the frame late on, but it went to a respot, with Steve finally fluking the black.

It really could have gone either way, but congrats to Brian and Steve, and bad luck Glenn boys Rob and Vince!

    2019/20 3-MAN TEAM FINAL

Excellent 3-man team final last night between Glenn and Abbots! Steve Gibbs played well to take the first frame off Brett Richards. In the 2nd Dave Maley stormed into a good lead against Paul Stockwell, but Paul came back strongly to nick it at the end - 1-1. Darren Grieves did nothing wrong against Robbie Powell in the 3rd, but could do nothing to stop breaks of 39 and 54. In the 4th Steve potted well to open up a 30-odd lead against Stocks, but 'back to the wall' Stocks scored a fabulous 67 break to level at 2-2. Back to Rob for the 5th. Again, Brett could do nothing to stop the rampaging Rob score an excellent 47 to make it 3-2 to Abbots. In the 6th Dave let Grievesy off the hook after early scoring, and Grievesy finished well to take the frame and level again at 3-3. So to the deciding frame and the evening's two stand-out players - Stocks and Robbie. Robbie continued his excellent potting to take a decisive lead and really only needed one more good pot to win the match, but Stocks shut him out until Rob gave him a chance, and he won the match with an outstanding finish. 4-3 to Glenn. Well played to you all!

    2020 HOME COUNTIES INTER-LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS

As reigning Champions, the A Team went into this year as favourites, with our B Team - last year's runners-up - close behind. Due to Covid rules, teams were restricted to 3, instead of the usual 4 this year.

The A Team of Mark Worley - last year's Player of the Tournament - Damian Wilks and Robbie Powell took to the stage along with The B Team of Dave Maley, Danny Brocklehurst and Jeff Worts.

At the end of the group stages on Saturday the A team comfortably topped their group, with some outstanding performances, with Byfleet second, so go through to Sunday's semi finals. Unfortunately the B team didn't get through, with Harrow and Milton Keynes A qualifying.

Sunday's semi final against Milton Keynes turned out to be a muted affair, and we didn't reach the heights of Saturday - with the exception of Damian, who was our star performer this year with only one loss in 8 frames over the two days. Milton Keynes went on to the final and ironically lost to Byfleet who we had beaten 4-2 in the group stages the day before.

Never the less, we all had a great week-end.

    INTERLEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020

At this moment in time, the annual Inter-League tournament is still on this week-end at Racks Snooker Club in Maidenhead. We again have two teams entered - the A Team, who are the reigning champions, and our B Team - last year's runners-up.

This year the organisers have restricted the teams to 3 players, instead of the usual 4 due to the 'rule of six'.

I will keep you posted with their progress....

    Good luck boys!

    LATEST NEWS UPDATE

    Hi all!

After the AGM was held in August, it was agreed that I should issue a questionnaire to all team captains to discuss with their team members options for POSSIBLY October/November, or in the New Year, and how their players felt about restarting.

Sadly, only 25% of team captains responded, but the general consensus from those that did suggested that it was unlikely that a re-start could happen before the New Year. Then of course the 10 pm curfew came in, so it now appears there is no chance of a restart until the New Year at the earliest.

The Committee has agreed that we obviously continue to monitor any progress, and to perhaps resend the questionnaire early in the New Year - if there are signs of improvement, but I'm sure you agree there is nothing we can really do at present except wait.

Feel free to share your thoughts though!

One brighter bit of news is that the 2020 Inter-League Tournament is, at present, still going ahead on 24th and 25th October at Racks in Maidenhead. Our victorious 'A' Team, who narrowly defeated our 'B' Team in last year's final are both entered again, so wish them luck!

    Regards,

    Jash

    CORONAVIRUS

    Hi again all,

Well, almost as soon as the Committee made the previous announcement on Monday morning it became almost outdated by the evening due to Boris's update. In light of increasing numbers of League Members self-isolating, we now feel we should take the responsible decision to suspend the league fixtures until further notice. If you wish to continue playing your team and individual cup matches then that is your prerogative. We will of course update you as the situation unfolds. Regards,

    Jash

    Dear all,

The WDBSL Committee feels that it is appropriate to make an announcement about how the Coronavirus could or will affect the League and Competitions during the next few weeks. Although the conclusion to the season could very quickly be taken out of our hands over the next few days - either by  Government or by member club decisions - we feel that we should invite you to continue with matches as long as your team is comfortable to do so. We will be sympathetic towards teams that have a stronger view towards isolation, and this could particularly be the case for teams with more senior members.

Therefore, if any team is uncomfortable playing in the current climate, then there will be no penalties for cancelling matches even at short notice, but we ask people to be as respectful to other teams where possible.

We strongly recommend that teams and their members adhere to Government recommendations regards washing hands, and contact. We recommend that the traditional shaking of hands with your opponent should be replaced with a ‘nod or a ‘thumbs up’, but perhaps a discussion/agreement between team captains before matches commence could be an option, so that no-one is offended.

Regards individual competitions, we are now at the semi-final stage. It would be helpful if you completed your matches sooner rather than later, so that we only have the finals to worry about, and at worst finals could be delayed until we return to normal.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any issues.

2019 HOME COUNTIES INTER-LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW

Below is an in-depth summary of the week-end by the the LHC Chairman - Paul Ives:

    Hi Everyone,

Apologies for the delay in getting this sent out, thank you to Kelvin Jones for reminding me!

Firstly, and most importantly, we have NEW champions.

Watford have won their second ever Interleague Championship (1999) and first in the LHC era, but it was by no means a walk in the park, they came through two deciding frames and required an immense amount of bottle to make it over the line in a highly competitive second day.

    Day 1

    Group A

The first day featured some feisty tussles, including another mammoth battle between rivals Thames Valley and Oxford.

Defending champions Byfleet struggled early on, foreshadowing what was to come on day 2.

    Day 2

    Semi Finals

    Watford B            5-3          Thames Valley

Beau Quigley the stand out man for Watford B here, winning both frames comfortably, solid performances from Maley, Brocklehurst and Worts reversing the result from last years Semi Final.

    Watford               5-4          Byfleet

The streak is over! Defending champions Byfleet lose for only the second time in LHC, and ends a 10 match unbeaten run. A close match from start to finish, both halves of the match finishing 3-1 either way.

In a tight and nervy decider Mark Worley overcame Ryan Mears to put Watford in the final.

    3/4 Place Play Off

    Byfleet                  5-2          Thames Valley

Losing this title for the first time surely provoked a response from the Byfleet boys as they managed to produce two centuries in the same match for the first time, first up was Alan Harvey, 106 in his first frame against Alan Grainger, but then step up Ryan Mears, still reeling from his deciding frame defeat at the hands of Worley, he would have beaten his highest break but for an unfortunate bounce out on the blue, on his was to 140, break ended at 122 and we have a new highest LHC break!

    Final

    Watford               5-4          Watford B

Well, the first time we’ve had two teams from the same league meet each other and it produced a civil war in our final. Just like the semi final for Watford as it was nip and tuck all the way.

But it all came down to one man, Mark Worley, fantastic all weekend, he took on Beau Quigley in the decider, showing all his years of experience to ensure that Watford’s ‘A Team’ was the ‘A Team’ in the South East. In doing so Mark took the Top Player award for this years event.

    Top Player – Mark Worley 12/12 – 100%

Highest Break – Ryan Mears 122

Thank you to all that attended over the weekend, thank you to Racks Snooker Club and thank you to Andy Johnson of Berkshire Pool TV for the live steaming. The event will be back again next year, same venue, same weekend, October 24th & 25th at Racks, Maidenhead. Put it in your diaries folks!

Next up for LHC Snooker is the fantastic Champion Of Champions Tournament, defending champion Dylan Leary, coming on January 19th, more details coming soon.

Wow! What a week-end! For those of you not following events over the week-end on the Facebook page the day started with an early minibus drive to Racks Snooker Club in Maidenhead on Saturday 26th October. A Team - Steve Bartropp, Mark Worley, Damian Wilks and Robbie Powell, and B Team - Dave Maley, Danny Brocklehurst, Beau Quigley and Jeff Worts. Both teams ended the day topping their groups unbeaten, with the top two teams from each group progressing to Sunday's semi-finals. Watford A drew Byfleet - the champions for 2017 and 2018 - and won 5-4, with Mark Worley winning the deciding frame. The B Team beat Thames Valley 5-3 in the other semi.

This resulted in an amazing all Watford final. The match was locked at 4-4, with Mark Worley beating Beau Quigley in the decider. So, Watford A the Champions, but what a great week-end for both teams, and fantastic for the Watford League.

Special congratulations to Mark Worley who also picked up the 'Best Player' trophy after going the whole week-end unbeaten - 12 frames, including two play-off deciding frames for his team.

A great week-end - great fun with a special bunch of lads. Much beer drunk, and laughs all the way! Well done guys, Jash.

    NEW SEASON'S FIXTURES

    Hi all!

The new season starts on the 12th September 2019, with two divisions of 13 teams - due to us losing three teams.

The handicaps have been adjusted at the annual handicap meeting - attended by 16 players and team captains on Weds 21st August - and these are now on the Competitions Page as per last season.

The main difference this season is that in league and team cup competitions no player will have more than a 35 'start' against his or her opponent. The reasoning behind this is to differentiate between one-frame snooker and 5- frame competition matches.

Please ensure you read the League Rules page . The main change is that we have lost the league results and competion telephone lines. Therefore, all league results must now be emailed - preferably on the night, or by 5 pm the following day latest - to the dedicated email address on the website Home Page. Competiton results must now either be emailed or txted as shown on the Home Page.

The revised fixtures are also now on the fixtures page.

Handbooks are being printed as we speak, and I will announce a date for collection by team captains shortly.

    Many thanks!

    Jash

    HIGHEST BREAK

21st Nov 2018.    Big congrats to Steve Bartropp for a fantastic 112 break in his Singles Championship match tonight (21/11/18) against Dave Hart. In what sounds like an incredible match fit for the final, defending Champion Steve amazingly still went on to lose his title due to Dave's almost as impressive 84 break, who nicked a 3-2 win.   Wow guys!

10th Jan 2019 .. Not quite enough to beat Steve's highest break above, but last night Paul Stockwell got a fantatic 110 in the Singles Championship. Well done Stocks!

    INTERLEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Congratulation to both Watford teams for a fantastic performance in the Interleague Championships in Maidenhead this weekend.

The 'A' team of Paul Stockwell, Steve Bartropp, Andrew Scott and Mark Worley had a very tough group but performed extremely well. They drew 4-4 in their opening match with the eventual finalists Thames Valley A, lost narrowly 5-3 to semi-finalists Eastbourne, and again a 5-3 loss against a very tough Harrow side could have gone either way, before thumping Milton Keynes B 8-0. Special mentions to Mark Worley won 6 out of his 8 matches and Steve Bartropp had the team's highest break of 57.

Now to the 'B' team of Dave Maley, Steve Gibbs, Danny Brocklehurst and Jeff Worts. What a day they had in the group stage. They opened with a 6-2 thumping of Milton Keynes 'A', and then performed admirably against eventual winners and last year's winners Byfleet going down 5-3. Next up was Oxford, with the boys winning 5-3, and ending the day winning 5-3 against Thames Valley B. This left them in 2nd place behind Byfleet to qualify for Sunday's semi finals.

Special mention to Dave Maley who ended the group stage with an outstanding 7 wins out of 8, and Danny with 6 out of 8.

Sunday's semi final against Thames Valley A saw our boys going down 5-1, with Steve Gibbs winning one of his two frames.

A fantastic performance by both teams, who did our League proud!

    HANDBOOKS

As you know, the league now starts on Thursday 27th September. New handbooks and score cards will be available for each Club Rep to collect at Kings Langley Services Club on Wednesday 19th September from 7.30. We will also have hard copies of the new Handicap List (same list for league and competitions). Can I suggest that - if possible - you put these up permanently at your club so that you can refer to them at each league match.

Any completed Competition Forms can also be collected on the night. Cheers!

    LEAGUE AND COMPETITION HANDICAPS

The handicap list - for all league matches and competitions - can now be found on the 'handicaps' page of the Competions section.

Team Captains will be provided with a copy of this list with the handbooks before the start of the season to refer to during league matches.

Please remember that this is a work in progress and the handicaps were decided by the 15 ish members that turned up at the meeting, which was open to all to attend - not as a result of only a few. Thanks!

    BULLET POINTS OF THE AGM

Bullet points of the AGM held on Thurs 5th July:

    • All three divisions will be played with individual player handicaps for one trial season.
    •  Each player will be assessed at the Handicap Meeting before the start of the season. Any additional players added throughout the season will play off ‘scratch’ until they can be assessed at the half-way point (December) at a further Handicap Meeting.
    * Any player not known to the Committee will also play 'off scratch' until the December review.
    • Challenge Cup and Plate (but not the Ted Higgins) will now be played with individual player handicaps. Hopefully this will encourage more entries and less walkovers/matches conceded by teams in the lower divisions with every team having a chance of winning.
    • The Under 25’s competition will now be the Under 30’s, to encourage more entries.

    RULE CHANGES

Please see below the rule changes as agreed at the AGM. The most significant one is regarding postponing matches, so it is now in your interests to fulfil the fixture - even if you only have 4 players.

    PART 4 – LEAGUE MATCHES

4.3 At least three players from both teams must be present before a match can commence. Any team knowingly fielding less than five players should before the start of play notify the opposing captain.

4.9 Seven clear days' notice shall be given to the opposing team captain and the Fixture Secretary of a postponed match. In the event of a team postponing a match, they will on the first occasion be deducted one point and on a second or subsequent occasion a two point deduction may apply. In exceptional circumstances (i.e. bad weather), the seven days' notice of postponement may be waived at the discretion of the Committee.

    PART 6 – INDIVIDUAL COMPETITONS

6.2 In general snooker competitions will consist of the best of five frames up to and including the quarter final. Apart from the Colbourn trophy which will be the best of five frames in all rounds. The doubles will be played as the third frame. The three man team handicap will also be the best of seven frames in all rounds. The semi final and finals of all individual competitions will be the best of seven frames.

Also, a reminder of the following:

    * No mobile phones should be used for any purpose within the vicinity of the match table.

    * Also, team captains, if you see a member of your team using a phone, or your player is standing over/near the object pocket of the opponent, or moving when your opponent is taking their shot, it is your responsibility to speak them.
